BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY
ESSAY COMPETITION With a view to arousing interest among school children in the beautification of the Borough, Mr E. R. Dilliear has offered to donate three prizes of a pound, ten shilings and five shillings respectively for an essay competition, open to all scholars on the subject "How Best to Beautify Whakatane." The following conditions have been suggested:— That points be awarded for the most practical suggestions contained in the essay. That essays will be considered by the Executive of the Whakatane Beautifying Society, and those considered most worthy of merit will be referred to a committee of three outside judges for final selection as to the respective prize winners. Details as to the length of the essay will be announced later. The closing date will be approximately July 17. Further information will be; obtainable at school for those pupils wishing to enter.
