WOMEN'S SECTION

RETURNED SERVICES' ASSN. ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Whakatane branch of the Women's Section of the R.S.A. took place in the Borough Council Chambers last Friday, Mrs F. Sumner presiding. In her annual review Mrs Sumner mentioned that the scope of worlq had been greatly enlarged during the year. The secretary, Mrs Norman, had written over 40 letters to local boys who were prisoners of war. The balance sheet which was produced and read, by the secretary slijowed a balance of £48 4s 4d in hand, after commencing with only £8 10s 6d. A donation of £22 had also been made to the Red Cross P.O.W. fund, and the sum of. £10 handed to next-of-kin for the purpose of purchasing chocolate for their gift parcels. The election of officers resulted:— President: Mrs F. Sumner (re-elect-ed) . Vice-presidents: Mesdames H. O. Caraway, N. Carter and Runciman. Secretary: Mrs Norman. Committee: Mesdames Appleby, Buddie, Burgess, Bennett. Butler Goodall, Hall, Henderson, Otley, Shaw, Woolliams and R. Wilson. Programme committee: Mesdames Appleby, N. Carter and Garoway. Mesdames Shaw and Woolliam; were appointed to take the trading stall on Friday, July 14.
