SUCCESSFUL ANGLING EXCURSION SCOUTS DAY OUT ' A thoroughly enjoyable day's fishing was experienced by a number of boys of the Whakatane Citizen's Scouts (Boyd's Own) Troop on Thursday when the Port Whakatane took a party of 26 young hopefuls plus the Scout Committee out to the fishing grounds in the neighbourhood of Whale Island. The weather was perfect and the. sea ideal for fishing. A half a dozen of the youthful anglers, whose hearts yearned not towards angling for the finny species were landed on Whale Island where the goats had a hectic time out of the way of numerous projectiles fired at them by all means and methods of propulsion. In spirit with the old tradition of 'bring 'em back alive,' four kids were captured and exhibited proudly to the remainder of the troop when they landed on the Island for dinner. Fortunately for the hungry fishermen, the goat chasers had found time in between hounding down specimens to build a firei and boil the billy. Tn the afternoon, the party once more set out in pursuit of the denizens of the deep, and while rocking in the cradle of the. briny managed to snare in all, a total of sixty assorted schnapper, hapuka and various other types of.fish. ' " * _ Fortunately, all the boys appear to have been good sailors, as the only one on board who 'fed the fishes' was the. captain's dog. How such a hardy ancient mariner was. so easily upset is still a mystery. It is hoped to arrange another day's outing shortly for the remainder of the troop who were unable to attend this one.
