Nordmeyer on hospital matters has been unavoidably held over and will appear together with the annual review of the Hospital Board by the chairman (Mr L. Buddie.) in Tuesday's issue. Even a Tummy-ache "At one time when a person went to hospital it was recognised that he or she was seriously ill. It is a different thing to-day, where a person goes with even a tummy-ache or a sore toe." Mr B. S. Barry-at the conference with Hon. Nordmeyer in connection with hospital rating. Reconsidered The letter from Mr F. B. Cutler asking tlie council to remove the slip above his Ohope property which already had been the source of. considerable expenditure toi him, was reconsidered by the Whakatane County Council last, week with the result that the whole question was referred back to the works committee for investigation. Decorative Phone Booth Whakatane is now in the enviable position of being able to boast a highly decorative public telephone in the centre of the Strand. With the complete redecorating of the Post Office now practically complete, the accessories have come in for their share, and the brilliant red booth Avith the roof of green is the subject of many proud and admiring glances, of Whakataneans. Sole Proprietor An interesting study Avas seen in the Strand on Tuesday mprning. A car and trailer Avere parked by the curb and the car's engine, fed by a gas producer AA r as left running. The car Avas piled high inside with baggage, parcels and suitcases of all kinds—and the sole occupant Avas a young Spaniel pup who gazed out of the AvindoAV Avith a definite air of. proprietorship. Tribute - to Minister En Avelcoming the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister for Health, last Tuesday Mr W. Sullivan, M.P., said that he (the l Minister) Avas one of the hardest worked men in office. Whether he was working along the right channels or not, Avas a matter of opinion but he could say nevertheless that the Minister Avas one of those who liked to see everybody get a fair deal in all matters.
Hospital Board Complimented "I would like to congratulate the Whakatanc Hospital Board on the attitude it has taken up with regard to the building loan. I think it was the only possible one under the circumstances, and 1 appreciate that whatever the views of the individual members were., they determined to discharge their duty first by maintaining and extending the hospital institution under their charge, in order to cater and care for the sick and suffering in this district. Any other attitude would have shown the board to have been failing in its trust." The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer at ■ the conference with the Whakatane Hospital Board last Tuesday evening.
