HEALTH CENTRES

OFFSETTING HOSPITAL LIABILITIES SUGGESTION FROM WHAKATANE "There lias been a lot of publicity given, to hospital matters in the press and over the air," said Mr L. Buddie, Chairman of the Whakatane Hospital Board, at the conference with the Minister of Health, Mr A. H. Nordmeyfer, last Tuesday evening. "One wonders whether the huge cost could not be offset to some extent by the establishment of Health Centres in the various districts to be sponsored l by the Hospital Board. It could include general health trainiimg andi eduw cation, sports areas, and 1 a gymnasium. I woul'di like to> see the powers given- 1«- the Board's to form such centres wherever possible and I think it wouldi go a long way towards building up our national health." Replying to this scuggestion, the Minister said that the idea of Health Centres although not a new one, embodied' a scheme which would' be invaluable when finally adopted. Unfortunately, during the war, the project could not be proceeded with but there was one Minister in the Cabinet who was particularly keen to see the whole scheme launched! and thoroughly carried out. When this was done, he had 1 no doubt but that Hospital Boards would find a new and! interesting work to do. j
