FIFTEEN CANDIDATES NOMINATED HOSPITAL SEAT CONTESTED For the eight seats on the Whakatane Borougjh Council there are no less than fifteen candidates nominated. The election which takes place on Saturday, May 27th, promises to be one of the most keenly contestedl in the Borough for many years. The mayoralty will not be contested the only nominee for the town's leading citizen being Mr B. S. Barry who has been declared elected for a further term. The nominees (an x denoting sitting members) are as under:— Allen, Robert. Armstrong, Chai'les Samuel x Canning, Alexander John x Creeke, Joseph x Cummings, Timothy James x Good, Charles William George x Major, Norton Spurdle Morpeth, Rex Thomas Mulholland, John George x Shapley, Sydney Samuel x Spring, Leicester Russell Sullivan, William x Thomas, Charles Frank Warner, James Harker Bent Warren, Henry George There are two contestants for the only Borough seat on the Whakatane Hospital Board and they are: — Greeke, Joseph i Suckling, Clement A. x The Whakatane Harbour Board will require no election the. two candidates being:— Brabant, George A. x v Kent, Gordon R. x *
