DANGEROUS STATE
MARAETOTARA GORGE ROAI> QUESTION OF CLOSING Urging that steps should 1 be taken to close the Maraatotara Gorge Road in view of the heavy washouts resulting from the recent flood, which to-day, in hiis opinion rendered it dangerous to' traffic, Cr G. S. Armstrong told the Borough Council last Monday that it should at least be closed! until repairs had' been made. The Mayor: What about stock! Cr Armstrong: It could remain ojDen for stock only. Cr Canning contended that there were plenty of roads more dangerous than the Maraetotara and that it could be made safer with a little, widening where the slips had occurred. The Foreman-engineer said that it had not got any worse since the flood and that if the Council so desired further protective measures could be taken to wire off the danger spots. The matter was: referred to the Works Committee with power to act.
