War-time Prices
The war-time price index as at March 15, 1944 (on base: December 15, 1942, equals 1000) was 1003, states a notice published in the Gazette by the Government Statistician, Mr J. W. Butcher. "This figure," he says, "indicates that, after seasonal adjustment has been made in respect of certain commodities the prices ol' which are subject to seasonal movement, the general level of prices of commodities, etc., included in the wa.r-timo. price index was 0.5 per cent higher at March 15, 1944, than at December 15, 1942."
