REPRESENTATIONS TO GOVERNMENT EVERY POSSIBLE; ASSISTANCE In answer to the WhakataneCounty Council's application for Government assistance to offset the heavy financial commitments entailed as a result of flood damage Messrs Sullivan and Doidge M.P.'s, have notified the results of their representation®. In a letter to the two Parliamentary representatives, the Minister of Works states that steps had already been made to release certain equipment, and instructions had been issued that whatever machines may be available and of use are to be transferred as required. The District Engineer would be. able to advise the council as far as special equipment is concerned. Until full information has been received in regard to estimated costs of. all repair work involved, the Minister is unable to indicate, the basis; of the Government assistance. HoAvever as soon as all the figures are received, every possible assistance will be given to the council's and financial obligations Svfeich must be borne by the local as a result of the recent storm damage will also be taken into account.
