COMBINED SPORTS

SCOUTS AND GUIDES COMPETE The combined Scout and Guide sports meeting which was held' in the Whakatane Domain last Saturday to further mark the coming-of-age of the Whakatane Citizens Scout Troop was in. itself a signal success and in spite of a complete absence of trophies resulted in the keenest competition between the various troops. The sports were under the direct, control of S.M. Te Hira Fergusson* to whom much credit is due for their animation and variety. The most popular event—the obstacle race saw some really fine exhibitions.. Conducted on the basis of an inter-troop sports meeting, there was a healthy competition throughout. The; championship points on the day showed the Scottish Troop to be easy winners, with Citizens, next on the list and Awakeri a good third.
