COMBINED SPORTS

SCOUTS AND GUIDES COMPETE The combined Scout and Guide sports meeting which was held' in the Whakatane Domain last Saturday to further mark the coming-of-age of the Whakatane Citizens Scout Troop was in. itself a signal success and in spite of a complete absence of trophies resulted in the keenest competition between the various troops. The sports were under the direct, control of S.M. Te Hira Fergusson* to whom much credit is due for their animation and variety. The most popular event—the obstacle race saw some really fine exhibitions.. Conducted on the basis of an inter-troop sports meeting, there was a healthy competition throughout. Law (S) 1; B. Thomas (S) 2; I. Law (S) 3.; Obstacle Race (11-12-13) by ten heats, semi final and final: J. Chadwick (C) 1. Obstacle Race (14-15) by four heats* semi-final and final: M. Law (S) 1. Troop Relay Race: M. Law (S) 1; P. Cliadwick (Guides) 2; K. Goodall (C) 3., Guide Etvents 75yds (11-12): B. Breckon 1; L. Gillespie 2; M. Coates 3. 120 yds: M. Doherty 1; P. Chadwick 2; B. Cairns 3. Obstacle Race: M. Doherty 1; P. Cliadwick 2. Cub Invents. 50yds (8-9): Melville Love 1; N. Reid 2; M. Morris 3. 75yds (10-11): S. Goodall 1; T. Stewart 2; T. Windley 3. The; championship points on the day showed the Scottish Troop to be easy winners, with Citizens, next on the list and Awakeri a good third.
