MORE ROWING CONTESTS
A number of spectators were present on Sunday afternoon when Whakatane Rowing Club teams competed for a trophy presented by Messrs N. Taylor and S. Dent, old members of the. club, who are now serving overseas. A leather pocket wallet was alsoi presented by Mr Rex Morpeth to each member of the winning creAV: Crews competing were, as under: J. Maxwell, D. Kahui, D. Brockett J. Gattsche and Ellis (cox). G. Dines, J. Cameron, D. Print, C. Sharman and Maxwell (cox). Iv. Butler, E. Hunt, G. Dines, T. Mickell aRd Rex Morpeth Jnr. (cox). In the race between the first two teams, Maxwell's team outdistanced the other boat and passed the post a good four lengths in front of their o'pponents. In the second race, however, Butler's team came in many yards in front, of the previous winners and proved themselves Avithout doubt worthy of. holding the trophy. Both the weather and river were ideal for the sport on Sunday, and all crews had a thoroughly good time.
