£10 DAMAGES AWARDED

In the Opotiki Courthouse, W. Sullivan, M.P. for Bay of Plenty, proceeded against. W. W. Jonasen, who contested the seat in the interests of the Labour Party. The claim was one of defamation arising from a statement made in an election address-, the amount of damages claimed being £300. After a lengthy hearing which lasted till 3 p.m. the plaintiff was awarded £10 and costs £3 16s. A full report of proceedings will appear in the. next issue of the Beacon. |
