BOYS BAND RECITAL

EVENING AT PARISH HALL

The Whakatane (Junior) Citizens Band held a short recital in the. Parish Hall on Thursday evening theTe being a good attendance of the boys, parents and friends present.. Prior to the commencement of the musical programme, Mr A. J. Canning apologised for the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr A. C. Sutherland, stating at the same time that the object of these evenings was to enable parentis to observe the progress made by the band, and also to provide a social evening for the boys. The. musical programme was as follows: Selection (Band); Bass Solo (P. Ward); Selection (Band);. Instrumental Quartet (L. Broadmore, G. S'kelton, D. Ward, B. Skelton); Trombone Solo (P. Moore); Cornet Solo (J. Miles); Selection (Band). Following this programme, Mr C. A. Suckling thanked the ladies on behalf of those present for providing a most enjoyable supper, and also spoke a few words qf encouragement to the boys. The evening closed with a hearty clap for Mr Jarrett to whom thanks were tendered for training the boys in their solo work,, and for accompanying them on the piano.
