CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND

SUGGESTION OF REMOVAL

STRONGLY OPPOSED

The suggestion at a recent meeting of the Chamber of Commerce that the apparatus in the children's playing area at the eastern end of the shopping section, should be removed and re-erected in the Domain, was strongly opposed by speakers at the last meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council. Cr Shapley said he was sure that the businessmen would say definitely *'no' to such a suggestion. The council which had also played a considerable part in establishing it should likewise object. Cr Caisley also considered that the suggestion, was unwarranted, as the park had been created especially for the benefit of mothers bringing children into town, and who might, require a place where they could leave them to play.
