TE TEKO DANCE
EASTER MONDAY NIGHT
The Patriotic Leap Year Dance held at the Tuteao Hall, Te Teko, on Easter Monday night was nothing short of a huge success, the hall being crammed to capacity. The music, which was supplied by Rugby Howell's orchestra was first class while Mesdames Craig and Gush and Messrs Haslem and Gush took turns at M*C. and made the evening go with a real swing. Among the items featured was a song by Mrs G. Chase which proved to be very popular, whilst two action songs by some, of the local Maori girls also took the fancy of the crowd. During the evening, progress reports on the Popular Girl contest were announced, and these caused great excitement among the various supporters of the four girls. The end of the dance saw the two Maori girls far in the lead, and although large sums were donated by the rival committees, the close of the evening saw both candidates exactly even, each with 7780 votes. Mrs T. Hall acted as doorkeeper and was entirely successful in that position, whilst an excellent hangi supper was served towards the end of the function. The crowd was; altogether too packed to run any novelty dances so none were held.
