FLOOD LOSSES
HARD TO ASCERTAIN Damage as a result of tlfe: flood though fairly extensive does not represent the heavy losses* originally anticipated in Wh'akatane. In most instances the actual loss in stock in the Various premises involved ranges from a matter of a few pounds up io £40. In one instance a substantial loss is expected) owing to valuable and irreplaceable machinery being under water. One machine alone is valued at £150 and this may be a complete loss. Damage to property in the residential area is likewise fairly slight, though there are many cases of poultry being drowned. The Borough Council will be facedi with a heavy bill as a result of the emergency labour gangs employed l . Likewise there Is bound* to be a substantial repair bill.
