FAREWELL DANCE
GATHERING AT OTAKIRI
A very, enjoyable dance run by tilt* Farewell and Welcome Home Committee was held on Tuesday at Otakiri when a presentation was made to Gunner Hex Cobden, the guest of the evening. Mir (X Lord handled the job of M.C. in his usual capable manner, while the rhythm Avas swung out by the Gaiety Boys. A ladies committee handled the supper, and it was the usual very enjoyable home-made one that the Otakiri ladies are noted for. Just after supper, the presentations were made to Gunner Cobden, Mr W. J. Murray, in an initial speech Avishing him all good luck; and future happiness. Mr Kedgeley j then presented Gunner Cobden withj a token on behalf of the Farewell and. Welcome Home Committee, at the same time wishing him all . the best, while Mr Lord, on behalf of the. football club presented him Avitli a writing case. At the same time he spoke of the activity Gunner Cobden had taken in sport mentioning the fact that, he was one of the best all-round sportsmen in the district, him being tops in both cricket ar.itl football, as well as tennis. In reply, Gunner Cobden thanked the speakers for their kind remarks, and also the people of Otakiri and the Farewell and Welcome Home Committee for the. presentations made 'to .him. Several solos were rendered by Mrs Armstrong while a Monte Carlo was won by Mrs Gillespie and partner. Fxtras were played by Mrs Armstrong and Mr S. Pierce.
