EDGECUMBE DANCE

AMBULANCE FUNDS BENEFIT

MOVEMENT GAINS HEADWAY

The first of a series of dances Avas held at. Edgccumbe last Tuesday night, by the Edgecnmbe St. John Ambulance and Nursing Divisions.

In spite of the condition of the roads and the Edgccumbe. bridge after the flood, the dance was quite a success. Mr K. List made a capable M.C. and kept tlie dance moving well, while music for dancing feet was supplied by the Gaiety Bovs' Orchestra.

During the evening, Mr A. J. Canning, Chairman, Wliakatane St. John Ambulance Association, took the opportunity of thanking those present lor supporting ;i good cause and pointed out the good work done by Mrs. Cowie who lias been giving First Aid Lectures in the district for some time. iin her reply. Mrs; Cowie explained the work that was being carried on in the district and her few remarks were received with much applause. lta the eoursc of the. evening -three novelty dances were held. The Leap Year Monte Carlo was won by Miss S. Hunter and- Mr M. Midlae. The Mystery dance by Miss J. Campbell and Mr P. Burke, while the second Monte. Carlo was won by Miss L. Steele and partner. The rafl'le for a beautifully worked tapc-strv bag was won by Miss E. Bouleott, and tlie tobacco bv Mr C. Salvidge.

The most enjoyable home made supper which was provide*! Avas in the capable hands of the Nursing Division.

The proceeds of this dance and future dances will be used in the furtherance of the Avor'k of the Order in the Kangitaiki area and it is the aim of the Edgccumbe Branch to purchase ah Ambulance and to build a hall when .sufficient funds have been raised and war conditions permit.
