Proceedings by the Transport Department and the County Traffic Inspector made another long list of eases which came up for hearing at the Whakatane Court last Tuesday before Mr K. L. Walton, S.M. For a similar oversight James Legge was lined 5s and costs 12s. Neglect to take out a license for his trailer cost A. G. Wiggins 10s and costs 12s. Dangerous driving on the night of December' 31 was preferred against Wild Pepani. The Inspector testified to checking defendant's speed at 39 ni.p.h. and also to his having overtaken another ear on the incorrect side. Fined £2 and costs 17s. Archibald; Dysart (Mr R. F. Smith) was also charged with dangerous driving, the. Inspector stating that his speed was checked at 45 ni.p.h. Fined £2 and costs 12s, Failure to have a warrant of fitness and regulation lights relieved Wm. Henry Davidson of 30s iu fines and 24s 111 costs. The County prosecutions concerned Rangi Dahya, storekeeper of Ruatahuna, who was charged with having no warrant of fitness for his truck, and. also failure to register. Mr Barry for defendant claimed that the truck was being brought to a Whakatane garage for attention when it' was stopped by- thff Inspector. It was impossible to do ordinary work with it. Fined £1 and 10s and costs 455. Leo Trevor Simpson (Mr Barry) who pleaded guilty to using an unlicensed caravan on November 3 and to> also having no warrant of fitnes was fined a total of 30s and costs 535.
