CENSURE

R.S.A. MEMBERS

PRESIDENT SPEAKS OUT

Some straight speaking was indulged in by Mr J. H. Delves, president of the Whakatane branch of the R.S.A. at last Saturday evening's 'smoko' when the men who have recently returned to the Dominion from overseas were the guests. Mr Delves was responding to the toast to the R.S.A.. "To-day (last Saturday) I know."' he said, "'was the day of the Edgecumbe Gymkhana. That is. alright. Members of the executive of the R.S.A. do a lot of work which the average member doesn't know anything about. They are not expected to do much in any case. But at least, they are expected' to parade on those occasions when we try to honour the younger fellows returning from overseas. To-day's parade Avas the worst I have seen in the seven years L' have been in Whakatane, and. most, of all, we saw members, as avc passed in the procession standing on the footpath. That Avas the hardest I>loav. I'm telling you this because I know you can take it, but I hope, in future there Avill never be such a poor parade as Ave had to-day."
