PTE. GEORGE. MELVILLE
The Welcome Home Dance to Private George Melville which was lield at Awaken on Tuesday evening was quite a success despite the weather which wa.s Instrumental in keeping a large number of dancers at home. Pte Melville has returned from Norfolk Island where he has been .stationed over o period, and he has noiv received his discharge from the*Army. The dance was kept moving well by .Mr Coll Macdonald, who made a capable M.C. while Mr King's Waimana orchestra, supplied the rhythm. During the evening, Mr T. F. Kerr took the opportunity to welcome back Pte Melville and at the same time present hinv with a small token. The discharged man Is one of a family of six boys who are all in the services, and the-di-strict has good reason to be proud of such a record. The only novelty dance,, a Monte- « Carlo, was won by Miss P. Carter-? and partner. The Red Cross raffle - for a tea set was drawn at the and won by Miss S. W. Miller, with ticket number 821. A laJtes' .committee of the Farewell a&4 Welcome - I Home Association ran supper.
