In the Opotiki Courthouse last Friday before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M. Mr W. Sullivan, M.P. lor tlie Bay of Plenty took proceedings against Mr W. W. Jonasen, Makaraka, who was the official Labour candidate at the last general election for the Bay of Plenty seat. Mr E. C. East acting under instructions from Messrs ]kiddle and Otley. Whakatane, appeared, on behalf of plaintiff. The Magistrate said that he had received a letter from defendant stating that he had received the summons only the day hi;fore he went to hospital, and he was still iu hospital. . He asked for an adjournment to enable him to lile a defence. Mr East said that he would not object to an adjournment. The hearing was adjourned until March 10.
