Writing to a friend in Hamilton a resident of Sydney says: "When meat rationing started in Australia three weeks ago 50 or 00 dogs were sent to the lethal chambers every day. This- went on for a week or so until the radio stations asked the people not to do away with their dogs because of the. meat shortage and suggested deferent kinds of food for dogs. it is to be hoped that when meat rationing starts here the same thing will not occur in New Zealand. * Post-War Immigration "It is the Government's job to revitalise the office of the Minister of immigration, for f believe that there is such a person," said Mr A. M. Hollander at a meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, when it was considering a report on post-war immigration. *'If we intend to do any tiling about immigration after the war it is. up to the Government to get the people, in-> tcrested. New Zealand's position in .he Paci/ic i.s so important from the economic and. defence points of view that wc must, realise the necessity for an increase in the popuution."
