OBITUARY

MR G. W. THOMAS

The death occurred in the Public Hospital, Whakatane, on Tuesday last of George William Thomas an old. resident of Gisborne and formerly of the Wairarapa. The late Mr Thomas was the. eldest son of Mr and Mrs M. Thomas, of Moroa, Grey town, and spent his youth, in that town. He followed the sawmill-, ing industry and after serving a term with jNle.ss.rs McLeod and Go's mill at Masterton followed that firm to Gisborne where he resided over thirty years. Failing health compelled him to retire, when lie resided in AVhakataue with his nephew. Mr E. L. Thomas, before entering hospital. His wife predeceased him and he is survived by three brothers and two sisters, Mrs Geo. Fellinglb am, Te Kuiti, and Mrs Jas Archer, ■Carterton. The late Mr Thomas was in his 82nd year and was very popular Avith a wide cricle of friends. The interment took placc on Wednesday last, heing the first to take placc in the new cemetery on Hillcrest.

MRS KATHERINE LITTLE The dealll occurred in the Wliakalane hospital yesterday morning of Mrs Katherine Little, wile of Mr H. J. Little, of .James Street, Whakatane. Born (Hi years ago in Sydney, Australia, she came lo New Zealand with her husband in 1902 and settled in Auckland where Mr Little wsis employed by the Auckland Harbour Board. I;n 11)17 they moved to Whakatane when the Freezing Works commenced operations. Later when this venture ceased they made their home at Nukubou where they lived for six years and where the family .still retains an interest in a farm. When the' Paper Mills project was opened up the late Mrs Little moved back into Whakatane and took up her residence in James Street. During the (latter period when her husband, was engaged as blacksmith at the mill she made many friends in and about the town. There is an only daughter Mrs lw Kelly of Whakatane.
