WAIMANA NEWS

INSTITUTE MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute, was held last Wednesday afternoon in the Waimana Hall. There was a good attendance of members and several visitors. Mrs Hewitt, presided and the singing of the ''Ode to Friendship" opened the meeting. Mrs H. Wardlaw then read the minutes and the routine business was dealt with. A sales table; for the Talent competition will be held at the next meeting. Each month one member writes to an invalid member in the Whakatane hospital and one pays her a visit on behalf of the Institute.

Nominations for the new committee were received, and Mrs Wylde was nominated, for the new president, as Mrs Hewitt has resigned.

A most interesting debate was lield, "Time payment v Cash," the speakers being Mrs Wylde, Mrs F. Savage and Mrs Stansbury and Mrs Dick Boynton, a draw resulted.

The day's competitions were: — Gooseberry jam, Mrs F. Bell .1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs I. Savage 3. Toilet set hand-worked, Miss M. Wardlaw 1; Mrs Hewitt 2; Mrs I'. Savage 3. Best single flower, Mrs T. Wardlaw 1; Mrs F. Bell 2; Miss, Wardlaw, 3. Best double' flower, Mrs F. Bell 1; Mrs T. Wardlaw 2; Mrs Wyldc 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Hewitt 1; Mrs F. Bell 2; Mrs Stansbury 3.

The roll call was "An experience in an earthquake or storm," and was well responded to. Mrs W. Thomas and Mrs Woolfield acted as judges; Mrs Hewitt thanking them jarnl the hostesses and all who helped at the meeting, aiid the singing oi' the National Anthem closed the meeting.

SUCCESSFUL DANCE

FUNCTION AT NUKUHOU NORTH

The dance held in the" Nukuhou North school last Friday evening, was welL attended. Mrs November's band supplied the music and extras ivere contributed by Miss A. Ruff and Mr A. Belli and Mr H. Spanhake was M.C. The function was to raise l'unds for a school picnic.

After supper Mr Macdonald thanked all for their attendance and help. A cake donated by Mrs Macdonald for competition, was won by Mr N. Tuite. The novelty dances were ■quite popular during the evening and the National Anthem closed the function at a late hour.

The Opotiki tennis team journeyed. to Waimana last week-end and a most enjoyable day was spent bj r ■all. The weather was ideal and some very good tennis was witnessed. "The Waimana team won by 21 sets
