MEETING AT WHAKATANE

Mrs Stewart presided over a good attendance at the meeting of the Whakatane Women's Institute 011 Tuesday, February 1 in the Methodist Hall. Nominations Ave re received lor the committee and Mrs Stewart was reelected president. Alter the business was disposed of Mrs Muir gave a demonstration of ''Sponging the Patient" in a very deft manner. Mrs llyde lectured on "The taking of measurements," Avhieh yielded some very useful tips to members. The roll call "Dressmaking Hints" also brought forth a number of 'instructive ideas. Mrs K. Schofield sang most pleasingly "Fll Walk Beside You" and as an encore ,£ I Passed by Your Win-; dow." Letters from servicemen overseas Avere read, wlierein appreciation was expressed of the receipt of parcels packed by institute members. Attention Avas draAvn to the fact that the next meeting Avill be on February 29 instead of the. first Tuesday of March. The garden party will. be held on Tuesday, February 15. Competitions Avere as under: Crochet gloves, Mrs Larsen 1; Mrs Stew-* art 2. Marigolds. Mrs Mulho'lancl 1: Mrs Comer 2. Berms. Mrs Sioaite i; Mrs FennelL 2.
