ATTRILL CUP CHALLENGE

ItAXGITAfKI'S DOUBLE WIN

The Whakatanc Domain was a hive of sport during the week-end when 44 cricketers attired in their creams took the field and. a splendid .day's cricket was displayed. The ' main occasion was a challenge for the Attrill Cup by the Rangitailci Cricket Association against the holders (Rotorua Association) who sportinglv brought the cup to Whakatane for play. Rangitailci' proved to be definitely the superior team and .secured an outright win by 7 wickets thus securing the Attrill Cup for the first time since its inception in 1920. The visitors also brought o B team and Rangitailci were again successful with a first innings decision. Play was from 10 a.m. to 0 p.m. and thanks arc due to the lady supporters, who so ably provided lunch and afternoon tea for all players. An appreciation of their. Avorlc was expressed by the visitors at a dinner held alter the game when the trophy was presented to the winners. In the. challenge game Rangitailci won the toss and, sent Rotorua in to bat. With tlie exception of Harding the visitors did not play the accurate bowling of McKenzie, Laurie and Fisher with confidence, and these three bowlers collected the wickets with good figures to tlieir credit. Rangitailci faced a score of 75 to beat and Spring and Campbell opened. Spring however was out b -hind the stumps playing the. first ball. Campbell went on to play a sound innings for 11 runs. Four other batsmen secured double. figuieS' including a brisk 23 by Fishei. Mercer secured 3 wickets for 17 whilst tlie slow bowler Godsalve collected 3 for 28.
