THE DECLINE IN LAMB
The most important figures in the Tort nightly review of killings for export, prepared by the N.Z. Meat Producers Board, relate to lambs. It is shown that killings for the season to 15th January, although fewer-by 71-1,581 compared with the corresponding period of last season, have reduced the heavy drop men-, tioned in the previous report to the extent of 1(5,000 carcases. The decline to date in the North island is 448,403 carcases, and. in the South Island 226,178 carcases. Details of lamb and mutton killings, with comparative figures of the previous season in parentheses are as follows: —• North Island Lamb 1 ,'>85,252 (2,47:i<55f)) Wether mutton 28,918 ( 57,770) Ewe 36,137 ( 151,375) South Island Lambs (50-1 7(59 ( 830.947) Wether mutton 813 ( 132) Ewe 3,353 ( 6,536) Boneless beef killings are 52,595 freight, carses compared with 225,828 in the previous season; bobby veal 57,650 and beef 1384 quarters (65,554),
