HAY BALING RECORD
15% TONS IN 111/2 HOUHS
What is. believed, to be a bay baling record, lor at least this district has bee.ii established by a Te Aroha team of harvesters under Mr F. W. Mulgrciw. Following a report in the New Zealand Herald where it is understood a team, working on a 12-hour run baled 40 tons of hay. Mr Mulg row's gang, which was working against time, decided to "give , it a go." They were working on the properly of Mr P. A. Swney at Waihou and harvested from three paddocks with a stationary baler. Two sweeps were used. • The. day's tally, with verified starting and finishing times: was 45% tons or 11.'J5 bales in 11 }•> hours. Seven men were in the gang, four of them being local farmers iand some of. the others men on i'urr lough. Altogether their achievement is something to.be proud, of. A press clipping from other sources gives what is understood to be a record tally for Hawke's Bay. Thiis was established on a farm in the Waipukurau district on a recent mormng, when a gang of harvesters baled 111 bales of hay in 50' minutes. For a normal working day of eight hours 600 bales is considered better than average. Lut this particular gang of men have been averaging 1200 bales daily for a 1.2-hour working day.
