TIMETABLES RESTRICTED

PERMITS NOW NECESSARY

There will be no Limited express between Auckland and Wellington under the restricted timetable to be run by the Railways; Department from Monday, January 31. Other cuts in the timetable, affect. the Whangarci, the Taneatua and the Rotorua expresses. The usual morning express to Opua and return will now run only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Eridays. The Taneatua express Avill run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Expresses to Rotorua will run only on Mondays:, Wednesdays and Fridays. The general timetable for Auckland suburban trains at peak periods will be; unaltered, but there has been a reorganisatoin affecting "off-peak" periods. The peak periods are. between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and 4 p.m. and G p.m. The issue of permits began - on Wednesday at railway stations, but bookings under these permits: were taken before, 9 a.m. yesterday morning, because of the nc.eessai*y internal arrangements that have to be made. Special cases, in which permits are not required., are. provided, for. S<j far as civilians are concerned, permits are not needed l>y annual ticket or other season ticket-hold-ers, by members of the Legislature, or holders of tourist excursion or block travel vouchers issued prior to yesterday. Members of the services in uniform who are going on leave, are not required to have permits, but their wives and families, arc covered by the. general restriction. In the case of returned soldiers travelling on four-weekly passes or threemonthly furlough passes, permits are not needed either for the servicemen or their wives and families.
