ALLIED THRUST IN ITALY

THE strength of the new Allied thrust into the heart of Italy can be guaged by the rapidity of the establishment consolidation and enlargement of its initial bridgehead. The new thrust can be calculated to create the utmost chaos in the German plan of campaign, and is a direct tribute to the great secrecy which shrouded the vast movement until it was actually launched. The new point of attack constitutes the upper jaw of a vast pincer movement, which is fed and reinforced from the sea, the lower point being the advancing Fifth and Eighth armies in the south. The decision for the Nazi invaders is that they must either retire in the face of this new threat or run the risk of being caught between its closing claws or at least cut in half. The attack is hailed by the Allied nations as a crowning piece of military strategy prior to the greater plans for the forthcoming general invasion of Europe.
