TRAFFIC OFFENDERS
ANOTHER SUBSTANTIAL LIST WHAKATANK PROSECUTIONS Mainly as a result of a traffic check up on October 21st a large number of prosecutions against motorists for breaches of the traffic by-laAvs were heard' before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Whakatane Magistrate's Court last Tuesday. In most instances the defendants had omitted to renew their warrants of fitness and were fined accordingly. Transport Department Cases The Transport Department proceeded against the. following: Jack YVano for operating a car at'Poroporo Avilhoi.it a W.O.J', was fined 10s and: costs 19s. William Waikato for failing to possess a dmer's license and also a W. o.l', was. fined 10s and 15 s 1 respectively plus costs 31s. Albert Edward. Le.it h (Mr Barry) for having no Avarrant of fitness was lined 10s and costs' 125.. For similar offences Brian McGillon was pena.li.sed in the same manner.
Defective brakes cost Maurice Christian Jensen 20s line ami costs lfis. liobert Edward Salvidge who Tailed to hold, a driver's license was fined 5s and costs 12s. Alexander Ward McGregor Avho also failed to hold a driver's license was fined 5s and, costs 10s'. County Inspector's Cases The County Traffic Inspector proceeded against the following for having no warrants of litnes,s: Eric I Emery fined 10s and costs 30s fid; ' J. E. Tke Tunui for travelling at a speed exceeding 40 ra.p.h. on the. Tane-. atua highway on November 16, was lined £5 aiid costs 27s Gd. Straying .Stock For permitting a cow and a calf to wander at large at Matata on November 19 dast Richard Maitai was* fined. 20s and costs 37s fid.
