POSITION AT FREEZING WORKS

At a conference held between the Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) and the New Zca* land Meat Producers Board, the killing's and manpower position at freezing works was discussed. The main discussion Avas centred on the present serious position which exists, owing to the shortage of manpower at several freezing works, made more acute by the present climatic conditions. The problem is a very urgent one,, especially having regard to the pressing need for doing everything pos* sible to increase the quantity of meat for Great Britain., It was emphasised that if fat lambs, especially tho.se "off their mothers'" are not killed when ready, they may go back into "stores," and be lost lor export. The" Acting Prime Minister assured the. Board that the Government recognised the necessity for immediate action being taken to meet the position, and; definite steps are accordingly being taken by his Department.
