HARVESTING LABOUR
MILITARY COOPERATION FKAVKK MKN AVAILABLE Territorials, arrived at the Matata camp on Wednesday to continue, the harvesting service commenced last month. The men are lit and sliouhlr give, good service to the farmers of the. district. The prior call on their assistance is essentially hay and ensilage making, but other work will be undertaken if conditions arc against harvesting. Unfortunately fewer men have been allocated, than was originally expected. Owing to the extreme urgency of providing adequate personnel for the freezing works the Primary Pro- [ duct ion Council has: been advised | that it lias been necessary to divert a larger proportion ot' the army personnel previously intended for harvesting. As a resu% of the l War Cabinet's decision it appears doubtful, for the time being, if more than 50 per. cent of this Council's requirements 'will be available.
An'y farmers requiring assistance* should as much as possible w-ork in groups and so spread tlic men around If it is found that tlie demand for men is greater tliaii the supply, every effort will he made to haver the. personnel increased by the transfer from camps, where' full use is not made of the men. Applications, should, be made to the Secretary Phone G8 indicating when men are wanted and that should, be. done a day or two tdiead to obviate, disappointment.
