HOUSE DESTROYED
BLAZE AT OPOURIAO OLD HOMESTEAD LEVELLED A large wooden seven-roomed housfe occupied by Mr and l Mrs Jack Rawson and family and owned by Mrs Rawson, Snr. of Oh ope was completely destroyed by fire last Tuesday evening. The outbreak took place l about 5 p.m. when Mr Rawson "was en gag-? ed. in milking operations. There was no one in the house at the time Mrs Rawson Inning gone to Ohopo for a holiday following a period, of ill-health. Mr Rawson fust noticed smoke arising from the. rear of the building and rushed over. The lire by this time however had a tremendous grip and all efforts to control it were futile. Being built of old kauri timber it'blazed fiercely and in no time had reduced the houseto ashes.. It was one of the lirst'houses built in Opouriao and was .something of a landmark in the neighbourhood. The. house was covered by insurance., but the furniture;, the property of the occupiers most of which was new was not covered and is therefore a complete loss.
