FANCY DRESSES

HAPPY EDGECUMBE DANCE

SCHOOL CHIILDRFN'S C.ALA

The children's fancy dress dance held last Friday for Edgccumbe school children was a most successful function.: The hall was tilled to capacity with children in all types of fancy dress both artistic and humorous. There was. a large attendance of parents, and friends who enjoyed watching the children in a long and varied programme of folk dances. Items on the stage were provided by Mrs Patience.'s dancing pupils. A Sailor's Hornpipe was most daintily performed by Barbara Cole. A feast of grace and beauty was provided by the fairy ballet danced by Barbara Cole, Barbara List, Janice Mayo, llaeon Williams, Ann Sullivan,, Valeric Ranby, Lorraine Roberts with Margaret Black as the ballerina. A spirited Tap dance was given by Lois; Hawkins. Margaret-Black, Valerie Green whose costumes of blue, with cherry coloured trimmings made a vivid and unusual splash of colour. A very skilful 13 T executed skipping dance was performed by Be mice Starncs. A very lively number was the Hunting Tap. by Lois Hawkins and Margaret Black wearing gay scarlet and green costumes and jockey cap.

The final item was very picturesque and graceful, a Grecian Dance, bj- Raeon Williams, Janice Mayo. Margaret Black, Barbara List. Valerie Ranby, Lois Hawkins with Hei.cn McLean as soloist .f These dancers wore grace.full frocks ol' mauve pink and green muslin.

Mrs R. E. Blair played the music for all the items,.

Mr J. Neil sen, secretary of the School Committee, in a short speech thanked all who had helped to make the dance so successful, especial ly Mrs Bristow who had trained the children in folk dancing ami played the musical accompaniments for them. A special vote of thanks was also passed to Airs Patience for the items by her pupils, which, had been staged under great, difficulty owing to sickness among the children making last-minute, substitutions necessary. All items were enjoyed by an enthusiastic audience. A splendid supper was served to the children by the committee assisted by willing helpers., after which the. adults supper was served.
