ARMY CAMP AT MA TAT A
MEETING HARVESTING
DEMANDS
The Army opened, their -camp at Matata last. Tuesday with 25 men for the benefit of Rangitaiki and Taneatua I'armei's in their harvesting operations. So far. all the men have been placed for periods, varying from one day to a week and the. reports on their work arc favourable, although they are inexperienced farm workers. As harvesting is not. yet: in full swing, a few of the men were; employed on various farm jobs such as hedge cutting and root cultivation.
The first call on the service, of the men is essentially harvesting, but if insufficient is offering at any time then they may be employed on other work around the farm.
The. Primary Production Council is asked to see they 'arc fully employed, .so applications for any work should, be. offered and an endeavour will be made to fit it in with harvesting.! The camp will lie closed from the 23rd till 28th December, but will reopen with 50 men and continue into the New Year. To. take advantage of the scheme consult the local committee, men or J. Alexander, Phone 08, Whakatane.
