THE WINTER SHOW
THOSE who recall with pleasure the three clays of intense activity which marked Whakatane's Winter Show in the pre-war years will have read with considerable satisfaction the report of the annual meeting at which it was unanimously decided to keep the function alive during the war years by the staging of a joint gymkhana with the R.S.A. The shows of the past have been described as the finest exhibitions for a town of this size to be seen anywhere in New Zealand. From an advertising point of view they were invaluable and must have brought thousands of pounds to the town directly and indirectly. The shows never lacked variety or vigour and their popularity with the citizens generally was regularly demonstrated by the substantial gate receipts over the three day season. The re-staging of the old shows in the post-war period will be eagerly anticipated by the people of the town and district.
