A Remarkable Record Mr Fred Burt, of Matata, who entered the Whakatane County Council as riding' member for Matata in 1900 hais jusit completed his 44th year of service. This we feel must be a Dominion record. In hisi time of service he has seen no less than sixty-two County Councillors in office. The late Mr Walter Reid, he avers had 35 years to- his credit when he died, and in him l , Mr Burt declares was the ideal county chairman. Mr Burt who has a remarkable record of athletic experience behind him, still plays cricket and 1 has represented Matata for well over half a century. Hist scrapbook of newspaper clippings dates back to the eighties and' the nineties and is weii worthy of inspection. As he recently informed' a Beacon representative he wouldn't part with it for £500.
Sex Education in Schools Aj British Board of Education pamphlet entitled "Sex Education in Schools and Youth Organisations" advises parents to answer children's questions; simply and sensibly from the earliest age. It says:—"Questions about sex and reproduction should be treated like any other questions, thus avoiding the creation of false mystery. Too many young people are ill-informed on the facts of sex and ill-advised regarding their social implications. Many parents are reluctant to inform their children. Other parents: l'eel the. need for guidance on liow to deal with the problem. There is a growing conviction among teachers: that schools must undertake the task."
