BAY OF PLENTY EXECUTIVE QUARTERLY MEE'J JfiXG HELD'

The quarterly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Provincial Executive of the Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Urfion was held in the Whakatanc County Chambers on Wednesday, November 17 at 11 a.m. Jin the absence of Mrs Gray, the president, Mrs Gibbs, vice-pre-sident of Murupara, occupied the chair. There were present Mesdamcs Gibbs, Hill, Wilson and King Murupara; E. C. Haultain, Dodunski, Barr, C. Wilson, Lee Wilson and Brizzle Awakcri; and, Grace, Yeoman and Prince, Tancatua.

Two remits were handed in by Awake.ri (1) ''Single country teachers have extreme difficulty in finding suitable board. Could not some scheme be devised whereby a small flat or suitable building could be erected near the school where these girls could live?"

The remit was fully discussed, different members citing cases they knew, where teachers had had to board from to 5 miles from the schools, and walk or cycle in all weathers to their work. Mrs Yeoman was asked to write an essay, diseuss'mg this matter from the point of view of both teachers and the people, who board them, times at their own inconvenience and have it sent to ''The. Countrywoman," hoping to arouse public opinion in other districts. Th'is re-, mit is to be sent to conference.

(2) "That wives of farm workers whose husbands are in camp or overseas. have no homes of their own, oik'c. the husband goes to camp and find it very difficult to find a house or flat, where children are welcome,, making the wife's position doubly hard, trying to bring up a family, and keep a roof over tlicm. Aiscv that the type of Government house now being built is no encouragement to large families." This remit is to be sent to headquarters at once pointing out that this is a scction of the community that is neglected in this respect. Advice was received from " headquarters advising that Mrs Joll, of Havelock North, was the representative of the Advisory Board. The secretary was instructed to i write to Mrs Joll,, asking her to pay i a visit in the autumn and thanking her for ''adopting" the local executive.

Minutes of the South Auckland Inter-provincial meeting held In Hamilton on November 3, were read. Four of the members, Mesdames Grey, Hill. Prince and Haultain attended ibis meeting.
