COMMITTEE
The monthly meeting of the Whakatane Patriotic Red Cross, Committee was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Tuesday, November !). Although notice had been given of the attendance of the Dominion Chairman, there was only a small number present. Mrs W. Sullivan was in the chair. V.A.D.: Mrs Pridcaux reported that the Home. Nursing classes and examinations were, over for the year. A Church Parade would be held on the last Sunday in November, in Which the Junior Red Cross, would be asked to join. The V.A.D. would take the shop for their own funds on December 6. For the Sewing Circle, Mrs Ramson said 21 pairs of pyjamas were completed and ready lo be sent to Joint Council. 11 pairs of cut-out pyjamas had been taken by the institute and 5 pairs by individuals. Of the. grey Ilannel given out, 4 small boys shirts, and 4 bloomers had been returned. Mrs Timbs, for the Knitting Circle said the following articles had been made and despatched during the month: For Joint Council 1 pair mittens, 1 pair bedsoeks. G pairs socks, 1 long sleeved pullover,, 2 short sleeved pullovers, 2 waistcoats; for Patriotic: <J balaclavas, 2 pairs mit-> tens, 3 pairs socks, 1 pullover and 12 scarves. Lady Galway Guild: Mrs Moran said she had not completed alll the packing, but goods Avere to be despatched this week. The Guild had been given the use of the shop near the Caledonian ,Hall for work and the display of garments,. Comforts Committee: Mrs Shapley reported; that the committee, had packed 91 parcels this month, and the Institute •"> making a total of 90 —the Xmas quota. Entertainments Committee: Eight men had been l'arcwelled this month, said Mrs E. Armstrong, 5 at a tunc-, tion held in the Borough Council Chambers, and three privately. They were: Roger Corcoran, Ron Marsh (Air Force), L. Lysaght, W. Green, S. Buckman and B. Stokes (Army) and N. Warren (Navy), D. Henry (Air Force) . Mrs A. G. Allan said the shop takings were £83 18s 5d this month. People Avere doing their best in spite of butter rationing. Mrs Sullivan referred to the <Joss of the shop the V.A.D. had as its training room and suggested a special ollort to obtain funds for a permanent room. An extraordinary meeting Avould be held in the Borough Council Chambers, .to arrange special efforts in the shop till the end of the year. Also an executiA'C meeting would be held at 1.45 p.m. prior to the. next monthly meeting. Mrs James said her son, a Prisoner of War in Stalag VIIt B had asked her to express appreciation of Red Cross parcels. Mr C. G. White,, Chariman of the Dominion Executive Red Cross, then addressed the. meeting. After he concluded Mrs Sullivan proposed a vote of thanks, Avhieh was carried by acclamation, and the meeting adjourned.
