DAIRY GRADING

ALLEGED STIFFENING DENIED

REPETITION OE COMPLAINTS

A" denial that any instructions had been given to stiffen the standards of the grading of milk, cream, butter or cheese is contained in a statement by the Director of the Dairy Division, a letter from the New Zealand Dairy Board, received by the Auckland Provincial Executive, of the New Zealand Farmers' Union at its mon-%ly meeting 011 November 17. It. was- s-tatedi that, of course., officers of the Division were expected to exert their inlluence towards maintaining standards that had been in operation for years. Any specific complaints, it was abided, would be investigated. A similar letter was received from the Department of Agriculture. Mr A. C. A. Sex Lorn (vice-presi-dent) said that he had made investigations which indicated that there had. been a stiffening of the. grading, although it might be true thatj no instructions had been given. 1 Mr S. E. Hall (Msi'tatoki) endorsed Mr Sexton's remarks and added that complaints from Haura'ki Plains farmers had lately become more numerous. Other speakers also supported Mr Sexton. It was decided that replies to the two letters be drafted by tlie Provincial Secretary and ! Mr Sexton.
