QUALITY OF RUBBER
FARMERS AND MILKING
MACHINES
The Dominion Secretary forwarded a letter received from the Department of Agriculture in relation to the quality of rubber ware used in connection with milking machines. It was stated that close observation had shown that while some samples had not been up to .standard I lie quality of rubber ware, generally. had been well maintained. The Factory Controller had been assured by the manufacturers that there, had been no change in mixing or processing. There had been some difficulty in maintaining measurements Avlien the new standards were adopted and this may haVe led to complaints regarding quality.
A letter from the. Director of Agriculture stated that very few complaints had been received, but it had been shown that in some cases when, inflations were not thoroughly clean they had given trouble through slipping. The system of doubling up on milking herds, it had been shown, had, led. to a definite increase in the use of rubber. The method caused rubber ware,, especially inflations, to deteriorate much more quickly, thus leading to more frequent renewals. No evidence of an improvement in the rubber supply position had been received from the Factory Controller. Therelore no more liberal conditions regarding doubling up could be allowed,, although some special cases had received consideration. The whole matter, generally was at present under consideration.
Mr A. J. Campbell (Waihi) said that it had been found that new rubbers slipped.
Lt was decided, to communicate urthcr with the Department.
