STREET COLLECTION ON 2(itli The November meeting of the Whakatane branch of the Piunket Society, was held 011 Monday 18th inst. at the Piunket Rooms. Mrs Cairns presiding. A minute's silence, was observed to mark the passiing of Mrs. L. Luxton (vice-president). It was resolved that the secretary write a letter of condolence to her family and that it be. recorded that the Society appreciated to the full the splendid work done by Mrs Luxton,, as a foundation member and as one who had maintained her active interest both as a committee member, and, for a number of years- as president.
Nurse Armstrong was authorised to use her own discretion re the disposal of the emergency, rations stored in the Plunkct Rooms.
Mrs Cairns reported that the Women's Institute Drama Festival plays produced by Mrs Stewart for the Plunkct Society had been successful. Nett proceeds amounted to £14 odd.
The secretary wa.s instructed to write to Mrs Jv. Stewart, thanking her l'or her assistance and also to express the committee's desire to thank all those who helped to make the function so successful.
The Society intends to hold the annual street appeal on Friday, November 2(Jth and in conjunction with this, produce stalls will also be held at Kopeopeo and the Grand Theatre entrance. Two .sub-commit-i toes were set up to make the final arrangements. .Members undertook to contact residents with a view to securing produecy cakes., etc. for the stalls.
