WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
WHAKATANE MEETING HELD The November meeting of the Vyhakatano Women's Institute was held on Tuesday 2nd inst. Mrs Stewart presiding. A minute's- silence was observed at the outset, to mark the passing of Mrs Luxton, an old and esteemed member. The report of the Council meeting was read), at the commencement of the afternoon. Good Service Ribbons were presented to Mrs Canning and Miss Ramson, these ladies well deserving the award. Tlie home nursing talk was given by Mrs Kennel 1 avlio dealt with respiration, pulse and temperature. Mrs .Miller gave members a demonstration of tireless cooking and its astonishing possibilities. Rev. J. C. J. Wilson talked on the Solomons, a subject of interest to all at the present time. He dc-t scribed, briefly the formation of th<s main islands and the varying -customs, appearance and characteristics of each. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of I ban Ics., Mesdames Miller and Litcliwark sang in a very pleasing way "Crossing the Bar," a tribute to the. memory of Mrs Luxton. Competitions were Avon as follows: Pikelets, Mrs Hannah 1; 'Mrs Mul--holland 2. Vegetables. Mrs Hanm;!i ! J, Mrs King Snr. 2. Rose). Mrs Mill-, holland 1; Mrs King Snr. 2. Letters from soldiers who had received parcels packed hy Institutemembers were read. Afternoon tea was served, and the meeting brought to a close with the National Anthem. \
