FIRE BRIGADE BALL
| FRIDAY'S BIG EVENT TWO HUNDRED COUPLES ATTEND The great popularity of the Wha-* katane Fire Brigade's Annual Ball! Avas once again demon'strated by the> splendid, attendance at the Winter Show Buildings last Friday evening. The event, wliieli attraeted over two hundred couples from all parts of the district was a success I'rom beginning to end and, a definite tribute to those who were responsible for its promotion and organising. From the announcement of the first, wal/.t it was obvious that the evening was going 1 to be something well above the average and. those who remembered the high standard set last year were not disappointed. Bright music was supplied by the* Rhythm Aces Orchestra from Opotikir. who won instant popularity and were in great, demand throughcut. Modern and old-time dancing were intermingled in a manner which pleased, all patrons. Mr "Tally' Atkinson once again carried out the duties of M.C.. in that capable and .finished manner for wlijlch lie is so well known. A pleasing feature was. the number of Brigadesmen present in uniform both permanent, and auxiliary. This added, an unusual touch of colour to the proceedings and had ,a most pleasing eflect. The novelties two Monte Carlo- waltzes and a Lucky Spot dance, caused the usual excitemcnt and diversion, the winners in all instances receiving applause. Supper which entailed no less than five sittings was attended to> by a capable, ladies committee un-» der the control of Mesdamcs Shapley and Creeke. The ladies in this connection arc to be war ml 3- congratulated on their work. Superintendent Stewart took the opportunity during this interval of thanking the dancers for their patronage and also expressing the Brigades appreciation of the work of the ladies. The extras were, played by Mr H. Davis and Miss Print. The second half proved every bit as enjoyable as the first and dancing continued into the wee sma' lioup when finally the last danca was played.
