RETURNING HOME
P.O.W. FROM GERMANY FIiVK LOCAL MEN Word lias been received by their next of kin that Pte G. C. Tippett (Whakatane) Pte A. Kinnaii'd (Whakatane) L Cpl R. W. And-rews (Whakatane) Sgt T. Horopapara (Poroporo) Pte C. Rolleston (Maketu) all local men are included in the recent batch of Prisoners of War from Germany who were repatriated l through a neutral port. The Minister pf Defence, Hon. F. Jones, has notified each family and expressed the hope that it will not be long before both men are home again. After a period l of two years in concentration camps the feelings of the men concerned can be better imagined than described. Gordon Tippett, better known as 'Googie' was particularly well known in Whakatane being a popular member of the Pipe Band and interested in all youth movements and sport generally.
