The Wlmkalane Borough Council lost evening decided to grant leave to the town clerk). Mr D. V. Saunders, to attend the conference promoted by the institute of Town Clerks on Tuesday, 22nd February, Mr It. O. Tomkins, who for the past two years has been Acting Engineer to the Whakatane County Council has received notification of his appointment as engineer to the Kawhia County Council. He expects to leave. Whakatane early in December. Word has been received by Mr and* Mrs W. S. Henderson, of Whakatane, that their son Warrant Officer F. M. Henderson, R.N.Z.A.F,, recently attended an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace, where he was decorated by His Majesty the King with the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry on air operations. The warmest congratulatnons are extended! to hist family on the occasion of this further honour. The Dominion President. N.Z. Red Cross Society, Mr C. G. White, is at present visiting the Bay of Plenty district. He will meet the Eastern Bay of Plenty Centre at 11 a.m., in the Borough Chambers on Tuesday; :.nd the Whakatane Sub-Centre at the same place at 2 p.m. Mr AVhite will give a short address at the afternoon meeting, and the Executive would be pleased to have, a full attendance of members and persons interested in the work of the Society.
