GROUP MEETING

WOMEN'S INSTITUTE GATHERING EASTERN BAY FEDERATION A most successful and enj,oyable group meeting of the Bay of Plenty Federation of Women's Institutes, conveyed by Mrs Woolfield,, V.O. was held* in the Parish Hall, Opotiki recently. Mrs Cooper welcomed all present, and hoped an en'joyable afternoon would be spent by all. The net proceeds were' £10, it including door money and sales tables. The takings went towards Federation funds. There were two- plays staged during the meeting, Waiotahi Institute presented "Miss Mollison's Finishing School for Girls," and Waimana "The Great Crime," both plays being very well received. Vocal items were rendered by Mrs F. Davies and Mrs Potter, pianoforte solo,, Mrs Williams, vocal duet. Miss Brown and Miss G rough and Mrs Kidd gave elocutionary items, all receiving great applause. All Institutes surrounding Opoti'kl helped towards the afternoon's entertainment. Afternoon tea was served and much appreciated. Great credit is due to Opotiki /Institute for the fine effort made. The singing of the National Anthem closed, the meeting. 81-ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING The Bi-annual Council meeting of the Eastern Bay of Pentv Federation of Women's Institutes. was> held in the Taneatua Hall on October 28. The meeting opened with two minutes silence for the men who had fallen in the Avar. Mrs Caverhill, president of the Federation executive, welcomed all, and the singing of the Institute song and the hymn "Oh God Our Help in Ages Past" followed. Apologies for absence were received. Mrs Reuben Looney then read the minutes of the last meeting, and a,ho gave a very full report on the past six months work of the Federation. The address given bj T Mrs Caverhill proved most interesting and instructive. jVlrs Stewart presented the report and balance sheet of the Drama Festival, which was held at Edgecumbe recently, the sum of £16 12s 7d being handed in to the Federation funds, and Mrs Woolfield reported on the group meeting held at Opotiki and the profits from same were £10, this concluding the morning session. The Ode to Friendship opened the afternoon session. Delegates gave their half-yearly reports, which revealed the great amount of Avar work etc. being done by members. A general discussion on Institute: affairs followed and proved most interesting and helpful. Mrs Shaw and Mrs Armstrong rendered two most delightful vocal duets "Arise Oh Sun" and "The. Rosary." A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Taneatua Institute for the splendid arrangements for the meeting. Mrs | Armstrong then presented, Mrs CaA rerhill and Mrs Looney Avith shoulder spraj's in appreciation of Avhat they had done in the past six months.
