COMBINED MEETING HELD DOMINION PRESIDENT'S VJSIT A combined meeting of the. Taneatua, Awakeri and To Teko branches was held in the Awakeri Hall on October 2o at 11 a.m. As it Avas Labour Day the attendance was not so large 1 as it would otherwise have been. The purpose of the gathering -was to meet Mrs Orr. Dominion President of the of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union. Mrs Orr gave a. very comprehensive address. telling members of the different activities of the W.D.F.U. with special reference; to the Rest Homes, one of which is at Palmcrston North and is now very popular and well patronised. Two more beautiful properties have been acquired' in the South Island,, one in Nelson, the gift of Col. and Mrs Adams, and one near Waimate, and photographs of these lovely homes were passed round. . The Housekeepers were doing a Avonderful Avork and the urgent need Avas for many more. Mrs- Orr reminded. members that they belonged to a large organisation, and could be a power for good, if they Avorked together harmoniously. We feel that the Division is fortunate in having a president such as Mrs Orr, and that we may safely trust her leadership in the difficult days ahead. A pleasant hour Avas spent at lunch, and the Awakeri ladies arc to be congratulated on their tasteful decoration of the hall. The. floAvers particularly delighted Mrs Orr ay ho comes from Southland, where spring is a little late. Mrs Orr was the recipient of two beautiful bouquets. Ms N. Carter g-ave pleasure Avith the singing of two songs. A dinner was raffled and was Avon by Mrs D. Allan and the proceeds from the- stall were satisfactory. Mrs GoodAvin and Mrs Prince,, presidents of the Tc Teko and Taneatua branches respectively, thanked the AAvakeri ladies for their hospitality, and expressed their appreciation of Mrs Orr's visit.
